Enjoy rafting on the Trinity River or visiting one of Willow Creek's wineries.
The town of Willow Creek, located on Highway 299 less than an hour from the coast, is the gateway to the unlimited recreation possibilities of the million-acre Six Rivers National Forest. River rafting, backpacking, fishing, mountain biking and back country touring are all popular pursuits. MAP
In town, the China Flat Museum offers local history displays as well as the world's largest collection of bigfoot artifacts. Visit a local winery, play golf or just relax and enjoy nature.
The area is also ideal for scenic driving --- Highway 299 has been designated the Trinity Scenic Highway, while Highway 96 from Willow Creek to Hoopa, Weitchpec and Orleans is the Bigfoot Scenic Highway.
Suggestions:
- Venture into the Six Rivers National Forest, where prime activity is camping, backpacking, rock climbing and mountain biking.
- Drive the Trinity River National Scenic Byway Hwy 299 as it parallels the Trinity river and Highway 96 from Willow Creek to Hoopa, Weitchpec and Orleans, which is the Bigfoot Scenic Highway.
- Discover the wine country of Humboldt County. Willow Creek produces excellent wine, call Dogwood Estate Winery and Winnett Vineyards for a tour and tasting.
- Find out more about local lore and history at the China Flat/Bigfoot Museum (just in case you have a close encounter).
- Spend the day rafting with Bigfoot Rafting, kayaking and fishing on the Trinity, Klamath and Salmon rivers. Camp on the banks of the Trinity River at Camp Kimtu.
- Coho Cottages is the perfect base camp for your adventures or for lazy days of just kicking back. Retreat for the week at Trinity River Cabin. Or for simpler accommodations, stay at the Bigfoot Motel.
- Head north a little on Hwy 96 and spend some time at the Tsewenaldin Inn and the Lucky Bear Casino on the Trinity River in Hoopa, or the Klamath River Lodge in Orleans.
- Dine at Cinnabar Sam's, everyone's favorite. Good food and local wine and beer served in a virtual museum of artifacts that beg to tell the history of the area.
