Art From the Hart Gallery
Elaine Benjamin – Dada Dolls
Opening on May 29, the Hart Gallery of the Ferndale Repertory Theater will feature the work of Elaine Benjamin. There will be a 7:00pm reception for the artist in the Hart Gallery, 447 Main St. Ferndale in collaboration with the opening weekend of the Rep’s “Arsenic and Old Lace”
As with the quirky characters in the play "Arsenic and Lace", her figurative assemblages have their own stories to tell. Also known as, "Dada Dolls", these sculptures use found objects, rescued parts, and items that mysteriously (and sometimes anonymously) find their way to the front porch of her studio, Blue Chair Press, in downtown Blue Lake. A special feature will be a new figure, her largest piece yet "Autobiographical", she says, as they all are to some degree. "Isn't that what Art is all about, putting a little piece or pieces of yourself out there to connect with others?"
Elaine's cards and Blue Chair Press label are well known, and many North Coast couples have been fortunate to have wedding invitations designed by her. A special display at the Hartman Gallery will have some of her many cards for sale. Blue Chair Press, in the historic Blue Lake Advocate Press Building, is a favorite of many on the North Coast Open Studios tour. The show runs through June 27th.
The Hart Gallery is located in the box office of the Ferndale Repertory Theatre, 447 Main Street, Ferndale. It is open during regular box office hours (Tuesday through Saturday noon to 5pm) and during performances. The gallery also features note cards by Elaine Benjamin and Humboldt county artists. All proceeds from gallery sales support the Ferndale Repertory Theatre.
