Sand Sculpture Festival

Grab your shovels and your friends and spend the day frolicking at the beach. 
 
Participation is encouraged, however, spectators are welcome, too.

While you are enjoying your day at the beach, digging/watching, you will also learn what Friends of the Dunes is doing to conserve coastal habitats in our area.

The best time to view sculptures is noon-3 p.m., awards will be announced around 2 p.m.
 
Cash prizes will be awarded to best of show, most life-like, humor, fantasy, ingenuity, "judge's wild card" and a youth category for folks 16 and younger.
 
The entry fee is $10 for teams of up to six people and $15 for teams of more than six. Register in advance at www.friendsofthedunes.org or at the Humboldt Coastal Nature Center and receive a $3 discount.This event is free for spectators, but a sliding scale, $1-$5 per person donation is requested to support our school education programs.

Directions: From Eureka: Hwy 255 (the Samoa Bridge) head towards Manila and turn west on Pacific Avenue from Highway 255 to Peninsula Drive.
 
From Arcata:  Highway 255 west, right onto Peninsula Drive.
